Talking Stage – Everything In Between

I believed him…

Tee

Tee was nineteen when she met him on Facebook. He was light-skinned, which was one of her major specs in a guy, and the moment they started talking, they hit it off immediately.

Their connection was instant. The vibe between them wasn’t forced. It was as though they had known each other their entire lives, or had simply been waiting for each other all along.

They spoke all the time. They talked about everything and nothing. As expected, the conversation became more intimate as they moved to WhatsApp. Eventually, he asked her to come over so that they would see each other physically…it was long overdue.

After telling Tee where he lived, she told him that she didn’t have money for transportation, and he asked her to borrow money from anyone with the promise that he would reimburse her when they meet. Without hesitation, she accepted.

On the day they were scheduled to meet, she was super excited and anxious to meet this person physically. She only borrowed money that would be enough to take her to his place because he already assured her that he would give her money.

They met up in a restaurant; for a first time meeting, it is usually advisable to meet in a public place.

Tee was very pleased that she wasn’t catfished; he was exactly the same as his pictures, and their connection was even better physically. Safe to say that it was their first date and they both had a good time talking and meeting each other.

After being at the restaurant for a while, he asked Tee to go with him to his house, saying that he needed to pick up his wallet, which he had forgotten when coming to the restaurant. He went on to say that his house wasn’t far from the restaurant. Having built what seemed like friendship and trust with Tee, she agreed to go with him to his house.

It was just to pick up his wallet, right?

They got to his house and he began to make sexual moves at Tee, much to her surprise and disappointment because this wasn’t the plan. They never agreed on anything sexual, which was exactly why they met up at a restaurant. He said he was only going to pick up his wallet.

Tee turned him down and said that she needed to get home…it was getting late after all.

“Fine, let me walk you to where you will get a cab,” he told her, easily letting go.

As he walked her, Tee noticed that everything about him had changed. The laughter was gone. The sweetness had disappeared. His facial expression was not what she had seen a few minutes ago. He became cold. He didn’t even walk at the same pace with her any longer.

Suddenly, he stopped a cab.

He opened the door and she entered the cab, and he shut the door and said “bye-bye,” then turned around and left.

Tee was confused. Had he suddenly forgotten about their financial agreement? Mind you, she didn’t have a dime because she only borrowed money enough to take her to him. Tee watched him turn his back and began to walk away. She was too shocked to call him back to ask for the money he promised he was going to give her, and too confused to get down from the cab immediately, knowing full well that she wasn’t having a dime.

On the way, Tee’s mind was racing. What would she do? How would she handle this situation that she had gotten herself into? By the time they got to their destination and the driver stopped and started collecting the fare from his passengers, Tee said she didn’t have money.

The driver, of course, became infuriated.

The man rained insults on her, dragged her, and humiliated the living daylight out of her. In the midst of the embarrassment, Tee just kept thinking about how this guy had done her dirty. Eventually, a woman came to Tee’s rescue and delivered her from the hands of the angry cab driver by paying for her, but it didn’t end there.

She would have to take another cab to reach her destination because it wasn’t just one stop, and that was when the begging began.

Tee would stop different cabs, but as soon as she confessed that she didn’t have money, they would zoom off. She needed just #300 (three hundred naira) to get home. Tee turned to almost everyone that she saw on the road, swallowing shame and dignity, begging and asking for that amount to get home. After begging nearly everybody, a Good Samaritan showed mercy and gave her the money.

A trip that wasn’t supposed to last longer than one hour took Tee hours because she spent a great deal of time begging on the road.

Tee arrived home later than she should.

By the time she turned on her data, he had already sent her some messages on WhatsApp, sounding all sweet and nice.

“Thanks for coming…”

Tee was enraged. She angrily asked him if he forgot that he was supposed to give her money to return home, including the one she borrowed, and he became really remorseful.

“Oh, my gosh! I forgot! I am so sorry. How did you manage to get home?”

He became sweet and apologetic, but Tee couldn’t look past she humiliation she went through. Without hesitation, she blocked him and never spoke to him again. After that awful experience, Tee swore never to leave her house without having money of her own whether or not the person she is going to see has made heaven and earth promises to reimburse her.

Did he truly forget or was his action deliberate?

Should Tee have come down from the first cab and insist on him fulfilling his promise to her?

  1. As important as it is to always have ‘vex money’, she should have gotten out of the cab, collected the initially promised money, and then blocked him on her way home.

  2. Lesson to learn here is never you borrow money to go see someone even if the person promised to refund, not talking about going out on a date alone.

Secondly, it is wrong to ask a guy for money when invited to a date, to me, it is a red flag. If you don’t have, stay at home or let him come over to a place close to your house, somewhere you can walk to.

Whether it was intentional or not that he didn’t give her the promised money.
How was she comfortable to go out of her house to meet someone for the first time without having enough cash, borrowing wasn’t even an option but if she must borrow she should would have borrowed enough.

  4. All shades of girlie

Oops, she learnt the hard wayyy…. Hope she had enough to eat and drink at the restaurant to sustain her through her journey of endless pleas…

  5. First time on the ‘street’. You’re welcome sis🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I’m so glad Tee learnt her lessons.
Thank God Tee didn’t ask for the money immediately he pretended like he forgot, I’m sure he would have embarrassed her.

Why guys dey vex when girl no gree give Dem opueh???🤔🤔

  6. Girls with nothing will be having SPEC, your cat is the only consolation then.
    “No Knacks no money o”
Make God dey merge girls wey no get Tfare with these type of guys.
    THIEF!

  7. This was not a betrayed trust issue to me. It’s a standards problem. The guy had his intentions from the start, that much is clear.
No one should make you do something that doesn’t feel right to do, whether you trust the person or not. Borrowing money to go see someone is a no-no. If there’s no tfare why not postpone the date? Such compromises usually always end in regret, even in cases where both parties are sincere. I’m sure she already learned.
