Flee At First Sight!

Rosie entered into what is known as a “talking stage” with a young man, and they were in their twenties. They hit it off immediately, and Rosie already started falling for him.

He was a nice guy, and the conversation between them flowed effortlessly. She was already considering a relationship with him, and besides, he had already stated his interest in being in a romantic relationship with her. However, Rosie didn’t want to give in easily.

They decided to take things further to get to know each other better by visiting him in his apartment. He was a young man who was doing well for himself, and since Rosie already felt comfortable and safe talking to him, she didn’t see it as a big deal.

She visited him, and the connection they had built over the course of weeks of talking didn’t diminish. As a matter of fact, he even made her more comfortable, and his company was natural, relaxing, and hospitable. After catching up, he decided to go into the kitchen to make something for her to eat.

Left alone in the living room, Rosie decided to explore.

The first door she opened left her with goosebumps.

In that room, she saw a fully set-up “juju.” Rosie was stunned to her bones, but she was wise enough not to react immediately. Instead, she began to think quickly about how to get out of the situation without getting harmed.

Different thoughts crossed her mind, and from stories that she had heard about young boys, especially in the Southern part of Nigeria, using young girls for money rituals was alarming, and she didn’t want to be the next victim.

As soon as an idea struck, Rosie swung into action.

She sent her best friend a text message, asking her to fake-call her with terrible news, and asking her to urgently return home. After that, Rosie put on a pretentious smile and went to join him in the kitchen. To act like she hadn’t found something shocking and scary in his house, she engaged in a casual conversation and even asked for directions to the restroom to ease herself.

Eventually, her friend called, and Rosie ensured to pick up the call in his presence. It was obvious that she needed to leave immediately. The young man became worried, especially as she would be leaving without eating what he was preparing for her.

He offered to drop her off with his car, but Rosie politely declined, saying that using a commercial car would be faster for her. She was finally able to leave his house in one piece, and it was only after she got home that the effect of what she saw weighed heavily on her.

She began to tremble.

Rosie was so scared that she couldn’t even tell anyone what she saw, but at the same time, she was grateful for a peaceful escape.

He kept calling, but Rosie neither answered his call nor responded to his messages. He tried to reach her, but to no avail, and for one month, he didn’t give up until Rosie had to take his call. He asked her why she had suddenly ghosted him, and Rosie opened up to him about what she had seen in his apartment the last time she was there.

He wasn’t upset that she snooped around and saw what she wasn’t supposed to. On the contrary, he carefully explained to her that he came from a family of juju worshippers, and it was his “turn” to serve the gods, which was why he had one room fully dedicated to it. He assured Rosie that it was harmless and that he was also harmless, but Rosie also made him understand that she was a Christian and that she would never be comfortable hanging around him, knowing what he believed in. Some other girls wouldn’t have minded, but not Rosie.

She kept telling herself that, “If I hadn’t snooped, I would have gotten into a relationship with a ‘juju’ worshipper just like that!”

As much as they had a connection from the get-go, especially in a world where it is quite difficult to find someone like that, shared many similarities, enjoyed each other’s company, and liked each other, Rosie had to cut all ties with him and move on.

  1. I would have married and had kids for this man without knowing, waiting for the 100th time before I look!
Thank heavens she saw it and was mature enough to say it and move away.

  2. Exactly why to check around is good sometimes.

It’s a big no for two people with total different beliefs to be in a relationship.

Kudus to you Lydia, this is a great piece.

      1. Reason why you should snoop in your partner’s house. If any of your partner is not comfortable with you snooping Their house, I think there is a skeleton in the cupboard.
