Human Looters

The country has become so bad now that neither the rural nor urban areas are safe. The rich are scared of being taken captive by ruthless and merciless kidnappers, and so are the poor. Now, they do not care whether or not the families of their victims can afford their demands. There have been reports of so many cases of kidnap and abductions in remote villages and local communities that it is not often talked about, and nothing is even put in place to ensure the safety of these poor citizens. The main security focus lies in estates, urban neighborhoods, and the homes of rich and influential people, and this is why kidnapping has been very successful in the rural parts without any law enforcement intervention or disruption of their mission, throwing their families into the helter-skelter exercise in search of money, bearing in mind that if their demands are not met, the families of their victims will not find them alive.

It is now very pitiful to say that people should be more careful when they travel to local villages and communities than settling in urban areas or living among the rich.

A man and his family, along with a few other people, were returning from a burial ceremony in one of the remote villages in Abuja about two months ago when they got abducted by kidnappers. Just like most unfortunate victims, this family is just an average Nigerian family, living normal and carefree lives.

Anyway, they were taken to the kidnappers’ den in the bush. Somehow, the man managed to set himself free and take to his heels for escape. As he ran, he did not know that some members of the kidnappers were driving into the bush, following behind. Immediately they sighted him running, they shot him multiple times.

However, he did not die immediately. According to people who were also kidnapped along with this man and his family, he was left to bleed to death for hours without mercy or rescue. This left his wife and children utterly devastated, as well as his extended families.

The kidnappers did not stop there. They went ahead to demand ransom from this grieving family so that the wife and children could be released. The families of this dead man rallied round among themselves and raised a sum of four million naira for these cruel and ruthless set of individuals. It was not until then that they were released from their den.

The joy of the family is unfortunately incomplete, because in mourning the loss of this man that was gruesomely murdered, they continued lamenting that if only he had not attempted to escape, he would have still being alive and his family would be complete, but the moment he saw an opportunity to escape, he jumped at it. Now, they have not also lost a lot of money, they have also lost a life. Even though his family members are back to their home in good health, they now have to deal with the personal trauma of being kidnapped and kept in their den for days as well as the man’s death.

  1. That trauma of being kidnapped is worse, those set of people are just heartless…

No one is actually safe, whether rich or poor.

May God help us all 🙏🙏🙏

  2. Thank you for bringing light to kidnapping happening in rural areas

I sometimes wonder how these kidnappers think. But then again, do they even think?😕

Anyways, the holy book already said that the heart of men is desperately wicked.

i just pray we all never get to be victims of kidnapping, Amen.
