On Friday, 6th January 2024, a certain young lady got a massive shocker, and it is just the beginning of a long bumpy ride for her.
Sometime in 2021, shortly after the covid-19 Pandemic, a church youth leader in one of the rural communities in Abuja brought exciting and elating news to his church members; the government was dishing out funds to her citizens as loans through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)! It was tagged “Covid-19 Survival Funds”, and since it was brought by this youth leader, only he knew how to go about getting people registered and receiving huge sums of money. They asked him about paying back since it was a loan, but he assured them that there would not be need to pay back, after all, how would CBN find them in the first place?
As a typical Nigerian seeking his daily bread, he collected 30% from his each of his church members and 50% from those who aren’t his church members as his ‘cut’.
The people were too excited to be receiving large sums of money (#300,000 above; and for the early ‘comers’, #600,000 above) to worry about their savior’s cut. To be eligible for the funds, you must have an account with Union Bank, and so those who didn’t have rushed to open an account with the bank, forgetting that even if an individual in Nigeria owned ten banks accounts with different banks, all accounts would be linked with a Bank Verification Number (BVN). Anyway, it was like a Christmas season for these church members and their families as Father Christmas was in town!

A lot of them, assured that they would not be paying back the loan, especially the youngies, lived a luxurious lifestyle during that period; shopping on new clothes, shoes, phones, and other fanciful stuff that caught their eyes. The golden opportunity to partake in the National Cake lasted for a few months before it ended. Meanwhile, their youth leader’s pocket grew fatter with every ‘cash out’ as those who got the funds told their family members, friends and loved ones about it.
Fast forward to late 2023, some of them started to pay for their sins in unexpected ways. As soon as money entered their account, it was wiped out as Recovery for the survival loan they took in 2021, and this goes to mean that they will continue to radically deduct any amount that enters any of their bank accounts until the loan is fully paid. Now this was the fate of this young girl who received her salary on Friday, 26th January, 2024, and before she could blink her eyes, her money was all gone, although they were merciful enough to spare a thousand naira for her in her account. She panicked. She trembled. Thousands of thoughts ran through her head, like how would she cope for the rest of the month that hadn’t even begun? Where would she turn? How long will they take her money before she can live a normal life again?
Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do; she had traded her today’s gain for yesterday’s glee.
The life of everyone involved has been turned upside down and they went into a state of frenzy. By this time, the church youth leader had stopped showing up in church, so they matched down to the Microfinance Bank in Gwagwalada where they noticed the ruthless deductions were being carried out. When they arrived there and explained their predicament, they were informed that indeed, they are paying for the loan they took years back. However, they enquired to know who helped them with the funds, they mentioned the name of their youth leader, and that was when they dropped the bombshell. Their youth leader is currently wanted by the government, and because of that, he is on the run. They also revealed to them that this youth leader used the money he garnered from them to purchase cars and houses. The young man had used the opportunity to elevate himself to Abuja-Big-Boy status, leaving the ignorant people high and dry.
After the revelation, they were a little gladdened that he is in the government’s black book, but regardless of that, they will still suffer some more inconsiderate deductions until their debt is cleared.

Wawu😱
If that kind of a thing happens to me, na hospital I go land myself.
The young lady is strong o.
Plus government can’t really give anything for free just like that, and people who didn’t receive as at that time will think they are unfortunate.
Nigeria is like your hidden iniquities; they’ll come back to bite you in the ass some day😂
Pitiful 😔😔
I agree with you Ann,not everyone will survive the shock, and also, this should be an eye opener for everyone out there waiting for that miracle money without stepping out to work. Nothing is free in this world that we live in ooo.
Nothing is entirely free in Nigeria.
May the Lord be her strength oo
Amen!
This is a sad an unfortunate event. People are strongly advised to thoroughly scrutinize documents and also get a lawyer where the such documents are ambiguous. However, it is note worthy for people to wake up to that fact that offers that are just too good to be true are nothing but scams in most cases. I sincerely hope that these event will serve as an eye opener to other people out there
Most of these people affected are local business women who didn’t even go to school. Are they the ones that’ll get lawyers when they hear of money?
That’s the repercussion for looking for free money in Nigeria.
Honestly
Sad!! And this youth leader might not be caught eventually.
Is it not Nigeria where criminals go scot free???
Why didn’t I hear about this loan and they still giving it out the loan? I’m interested ☺️
It’s like you don’t like money staying in your bank account without you spending😂
There’s nothing like “manna” in Nigeria.I’m just imagining the pain that comes with the debit alert and as for the youth leader,he might not be get the deserved punishment.
Let’s not be deceived.
Anything Nigeria gives you, especially if you did not work for it, be ready to cry blood when they start collecting it back…because they will when you are not ready!
When you’re not ready…
They’ve eaten baby food during pregnancy
Exactly!😂
Nigeria my country 🤣
Nothing is free
Nothing at all o, don’t let them fool you.
