Talking Stage – What A Man Wants

He was looking for princess treatment…

Miss Vee

Miss Vee met this guy when she was serving. He was ahead of her, so he finished his youth service before she did, but it was NYSC that made them acquainted.

He initially asked her to be his girlfriend before he finished serving and left, but she turned him down. After he left, they lost contact and stopped communicating completely.

Fast forward to a few years later, he hit her up on Facebook, asked for her phone number, and they reconnected again. They got talking and he began to profess his love for her again. This time around, he was more serious about dating her. He really wanted a chance for them to be together.

After all the wooing, Miss Vee decided that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give him this chance he so craved for.

“Okay, chance is given. Let’s see how it goes,” she told him.

Miss Vee decided that it was best for them to “see how it will go” because sometimes, their so-called interest might not last for more than two days, so she didn’t want to keep her hopes up for this one as well.

So, they kept talking.

As expected, it is during this stage that both parties get to know small and sometimes, big details about each other. He asked Miss Vee about her job and she told him where she worked. A few days after she gave him the chance he wanted, he began to make suspicious requests.

“I am at a place right now and I cannot recharge my phone. Help me recharge a thousand naira,” he once told Miss Vee, sounding very urgent.

Miss Vee told him that she didn’t have money at that moment.

Another time, he told her that if she was ready, he was also ready. Miss Vee didn’t quite understand what he was talking about. What did he mean by being ready? He said if Miss Vee was ready for marriage, he was also ready.

“How?” Miss Vee asked him.

“Since you are working and you have money. If you can handle the cost of the wedding, I am also ready to get married,” he explained her.

Miss Vee was shocked at his audacity and utter shamelessness. Weren’t men supposed to be the sole providers? When did the roles reverse? His previous “tiny” requests were already off putting, but this one took Miss Vee out completely.

He went ahead to tell her that when his brother got married, he didn’t contribute a dime for the wedding. His brother’s wife handled ALL the expenses. The only contribution his brother made to his wedding was the suit he bought with his money.

That was the same expectation he was having, seeing that she had a job. It was as though the men in his family were raised to just exist and be well taken care of by women.

Miss Vee was completely turned off and after that absurd and ridiculous proposal that he made only a few days of giving him a chance. The communication between them dropped drastically. She realized that he wasn’t someone to even keep around. She had wanted to see where it would go, but she got to find out that it wasn’t leading anywhere.

Barely two months later, Miss Vee found out that the same guy was getting married. He had probably found another woman who was willing to give him the princess treatment he felt he deserved as a man, or just maybe in that short space of time, he had changed for the better.

Nevertheless, Miss Vee had no regrets because she didn’t even fall for any of his antics by spending a dime on him.
